Bali visa if you live in Japan

The passport you will use for Bali determines the Indonesian route. Living in Japan, including holding a residence status there, does not change the eligibility attached to another passport.

The short answer

Your travel passport determines the Indonesian route; living in Japan does not change it.

Japanese ordinary passport holders are eligible for B1 e-VOA. Other passports may qualify for different routes, so check the passport you will present before booking or applying.

Which visa does your passport need?

This guide shows JPY starting references and selected passport examples. The route follows the passport used to travel, not place of birth or residence. Prices are fixed in JPY on this page and do not change with the header currency selector; the written quote confirms the current route and exact total.

Counts describe foreign residents in Japan at year-end 2025; they are not Bali visitor or visa-demand counts. Japan’s Immigration Services Agency reported 4,125,395 foreign residents at the end of 2025. The largest nationality groups included Chinese (930,428), Vietnamese (681,100), South Korean (407,341), Filipino (356,579) and Nepalese (300,992). These are resident counts, not Bali travel demand or visa eligibility; Indonesian citizens are not listed as needing a visa to return home. Actual eligibility follows the passport you will travel on. Check the published passport lists.

Starting references are approximate conversions from the published VBS tiers: 1 USD = 157.90537 JPY (checked 29 October 2026). The B1/C1 reference includes the listed visa fee and assistance tier; third-party payment charges, extensions and Bali’s tourist levy may be separate. We confirm the current scope, currency and payable total in writing before you pay.

Does living in Japan change your Bali visa?

A visa, work permit or residence card issued by Japan does not give you the Indonesian visa access of a Japanese passport holder. Indonesia checks the passport you present for the application and at entry.

If you hold more than one passport, tell us which one you will use. Keep that passport consistent for the application, airline check-in and entry to Indonesia.

Returning to Japan

Japanese citizens should travel on a valid Japanese passport. Foreign residents of Japan should confirm that their residence status and any re-entry permission cover their planned absence; requirements depend on status and length of travel.

Before you travel from Japan to Bali

Residents travelling on different passports can have different Indonesian entry routes. Keep the visa application, airline booking and passport used at immigration consistent, and check Japan’s re-entry conditions separately if you hold a residence status there.

Check Indonesia’s official e-Visa portal for current passport validity, onward-ticket and document requirements. Immigration makes the final entry decision.

Bali visa prices from Japan

Published starting references are ¥6,300 for B1 and ¥15,800 for C1 in JPY. Visa-free passports do not pay an Indonesian visa fee for the eligible short visit. Your final total depends on the route, current government charge and supporting work; we send it in writing before payment.

The local-currency figures are fixed to this residence guide, not the header display setting. Exchange rates and official fees can change, so treat them as starting estimates.

Why are foreign nationalities listed on this Japan guide?

The selected examples come from Japan’s 2025 foreign-resident nationality statistics. Those counts do not show who plans to travel to Bali, and a person must check the passport they will actually use.

Do Japanese passport holders need a visa for Bali?

Japanese ordinary passports are included on Indonesia’s published B1 Visa on Arrival list. B1 allows up to 30 days initially and may be extended once, subject to current rules.

Can residents of Japan use visa-free entry?

Some passports held by residents of Japan, including Vietnamese, Philippine, Brazilian and Myanmar passports, are on Indonesia’s current visa-free visit list for eligible stays up to 30 days. It is not extendable; check current rules.

Does Japanese residence change the route for my passport?

No. Indonesia checks the passport you use to travel. If you hold a Japanese residence status on a different passport, check both Indonesia’s entry route and Japan’s re-entry requirements.

How much does Bali visa assistance cost in yen?

The JPY starting references are approximate conversions of the published VBS tiers from a dated exchange-rate snapshot. We confirm current government charges and the exact total in a written quote before payment.

Do I pay when I send a request?

No. We review your route and documents first. If we can proceed, we email a written quote and secure payment link.
